storytelling through the lens.
My journey as a storyteller continued as I developed an interest in filmmaking. Through my Media Studies coursework in college, I developed an interest in documentary filmmaking. I aim to capture the mundane - the nuances in a story that render it real to the people involved. I want to illustrate the good and the bad alike to most accurately capture the emotional dimension of a story, and project those emotions back onto viewers.
I began professionally pursuing documentary filmmaking by end-to-end producing video packages for NBC News 4. As the exclusive producer of these videos, I researched stories to showcase, interviewed parties relevant to the story, directed camera shots for the interviews as well as for b-roll, and edited all of the footage together to achieve my video production vision for the piece. These videos include a celebration of women-owned small businesses across New York City, and the project I’m currently working on - a documentary about the Josephine Herrick Project.
Celebrating NYC’s women-owned small businesses
As a reporter for NBC New York, I produced a video package celebrating 3 of NYC’s most unique women owned small businesses in March 2024. The video shines light on each of their journeys, from conquering challenges to celebrating successes. The video was published on NBC New York’s website.
Capturing the light: photography as a healing force
The Josephine Herrick Project is a NYC-based non-profit organization that teaches photography to students from under-resourced communities, and introduces them to the healing power of photography.
